Defying Expectations, Wicked Soars into The Avalon Theatre

Writer: TheAvalonTheatreTheAvalonTheatre

Marysville, OH - The musical WICKED has been a staple for musical theatre lovers since its  Broadway Debut in the fall of 2003.  It quickly became a modern classic, with memorable music, compelling storylines, beloved characters, and not a small dose of theatre magic.  That magic was translated to the silver screen this year in John M. Chu’s tour-de-force film WICKED: PART 1.

Lovers of Wicked rejoiced at the 10 Oscar Nominations for this movie/musical adaptation, and to celebrate, The Avalon Theatre will be presenting the film for one night only on the big screen. This is a wonderful opportunity to see one of this year's most important films in the heart of Uptown Marysville.  The Avalon Theatre is keeping ticket prices reasonable at only $10 per ticket.

The stage production is known for making stars of its leading ladies and the movie is no different, propelling the already famous stars Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Glinda) to another level of acclaim.  One of the results was Oscar nominations for both, with Grande being nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category and Erivo receiving a nod for Best Actress.  In addition, the production received 8 more nominations for a total of 10  nominations.

Misunderstood because of her green skin, a young woman named Elphaba forges an unlikely but profound friendship with Glinda, a student with an unflinching desire for popularity. Following an encounter with the Wizard of Oz, their relationship soon reaches a crossroads as their lives begin to take very different paths.

See what all of the fuss is about at The Avalon Theatre on Thursday, February 27 at 7:00 pm.  This will be one of the final chances to catch WICKED: PART 1 on the big screen before the Oscar Ceremony on Sunday, March 2. The $10 tickets are available for purchase online or at the theatre box office, making this an affordable way to catch this instant classic.  In addition to the movie screening, the Holiday Inn Express Marysville will be offering a free craft project for kids.  When the theatre doors open at 6:00 pm you and your kids will be able to create a WICKED-themed craft that you can take home after the movie!

Tickets for this event can be purchased online at theavalontheatre.org, or you can stop by The Avalon Theatre box office at 121 S Main Street, Marysville, OH.  Box office hours are from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Wednesday through Saturday and one hour before all events. The Avalon Theatre offers a variety of concessions at The Scott’s Miracle-gro Foundation Marquee Club, including fresh organic popcorn from Ohio Till Farmstead, alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, candy, and more.
